This installation, housed in what was previously known as the At-Bristol Science Centre, is an interactive educational experience that allows the audience to learn stories about Bristol and its history, through touch. The hand-drawn illustrations transform into (projected) moving animations accompanied by sounds, when triggered by the audience’s touch (due to the use of conductive ink). These animations last no longer than 10 seconds, allowing for optimum impact and audience engagement. A staff member is also on hand to continue the conversation and further the information provided.

These playful animations create a sense of fun and an almost magical visual effect. By combining elements such as science, fun, culture, and education, it creates an experience that feels collaborative and all-inclusive. This type of interactive experience could successfully be translated into other design concepts in which culture and education meet.
This use of ‘hidden’ technology could also be translated into other design concepts, particularly retail, with it being an industry that is increasingly becoming more focused on creating a blend between the physical and digital mediums.
